We work all the year
round. We are proud of our reputation for safety conscious fun
and professionalism. Plymouth Sailing School was set up in 1957
and is one of the UK's longest established sea schools. We try
hard to accommodate our customers requirements - from the complete
beginner to the Professional Yachtmaster.
General information
Shorebased courses start and finish at our office and classrooms
at Yacht Haven Quay. The yachts are berthed in
Plymouth Yacht Haven Marina half a mile down river and most of
the practical courses meet at the new 'Bridge' restaurant and bar
on the waterfront at the marina.
Car
Parking is free, there is an excellent bus service from Plymouth
City Centre (No. 2) and a frequent water taxi from the Mayflower
Steps pontoon on the Barbican if you are going to the marina..
Accommodation
Shorebased
courses are non residential. There are plenty of options
for nearby places to stay, including B&B on a dive charter boat on
the marina (Loyal Watcher), family B&B in the neighbourhood,
Mountbatten Hotel, 4 person cabins in the Mountbatten Centre and
several good pubs with rooms. We have a list of local hotels and
bed & breakfasts. We will be pleased to help if you have any
problems booking something up. If you prefer, we can sometimes
provide accommodation at a very reasonable cost on one of our
boats (subject to availability).
Practical
courses: you will live on board the yacht as part of the course,
stopping off in various ports to explore ashore and sleep on the
boat. A Channel crossing may involve sailing overnight - you will
work watches with your fellow crewmates.
Broadband Internet Access
We have installed a
broadband HIGH SPEED connection in the office and classrooms.
There is also an internet desk for customers in the marina
reception. This service is available whenever the office is
open. Which is usually 7 days a week.
