About Our School

We work all the year round. We are proud of our reputation for safety conscious fun and professionalism. Plymouth Sailing School was set up in 1957 and is one of the UK's longest established sea schools. We try hard to accommodate our customers requirements - from the complete beginner to the Professional Yachtmaster.

General information

Courses start and finish at our offices at the Mount Batten Centre, which is at the North East corner of Plymouth Sound on the south side of the River Plym (50deg 21’.616N 04deg 7’.591W) close to Plymouth Yacht Haven Marina where our boats are berthed.

Car Parking is free, there is an excellent bus service from Plymouth City Centre (No. 7) and a frequent water taxi from the Mayflower Steps pontoon on the Barbican.

Accommodation

Shorebased courses: there are cabins available within the Mount Batten Centre complex (01752 404567) or we have a list of local hotels and bed & breakfasts. We will be pleased to help if you have any problems booking something up. If you prefer, we can sometimes provide accommodation at a very reasonable cost on one of our boats (subject to availability).

Practical courses: you will live on board the yacht as part of the course, stopping off in various ports to explore ashore and sleep on the boat. A Channel crossing may involve sailing overnight - you will work watches with your fellow crewmates.

Broadband Internet Access

We have installed a broadband HIGH SPEED connection for our internet access point. Customers on courses and visiting yachtsmen are now able to check their e-mail at Plymouth Sailing School's offices in the Mount batten Centre without having to walk miles to the nearest internet cafe.

The latest continuously on line high speed connection gives rapid access and good value for money. This service is available whenever the office is open. Which is usually 7 days a week.
