for an exam, it could save you money as well as embarrassment.
EURO LEGISLATION
Euro Legislation is making it necessary for some
form of qualification to be obtained before you can sail in foreign
waters. We recommend you check the latest requirements from the
foreign governments before taking a yacht abroad.
(ICC) INTERNATIONAL
CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE
The ICC is issued for different areas of usage
such as inland or coastal and for different craft types sail or
power. If a RYA practical course completion certificate is held,
issue can be automatic. Alternatively we can arrange a written/practical
test (which can take up to 2 hours) on one of our boats or on
your own boat. Test fee £50.00 per person plus £34
to the RYA for admin (free to RYA members). CEVNI tests, the fee
is a £10 donation to the RNLI.
RYA POWERBOAT LEVEL 2 AND ADVANCED
POWERBOAT
These certificates may now be used as formal
qualifications by commercial operators. Level 2 exams are carried
out by our own qualified staff in the same way as ICC tests at
a standard fee of £70.00, Advanced exams are subject to
a £123 fee payable to the RYA examiner.
RYA/DOT YACHTMASTER
OFFSHORE AND COASTAL SKIPPER
The examinations for these certificates are carried
out by an external RYA examiner. They may be done on any suitable
vessel by appointment. The exams can take as much as 12 hours
for 1 candidate. Note that half of the qualifying miles for RYA/DOT
certificates must be in Tidal waters.
RYA YACHTMASTER OCEAN
The Ocean exam is an oral and written test and
inspection of previously taken sights. Holders of the Yachtmaster
Ocean Theory Certificate are exempt from the written paper. The
cost is £106.00.
CONVERSION EXAMS
Sail to Power or Power to Sail: You need 50%
of the qualifying miles and experience. The 3-hour exam costs
£77.00
